Today was all about getting back up to where I left off on the coast last October. In the six months that I haven't been walking I have put on over a stone in weight! That is a good reason in itself to get walking again, but of course the Walk is all about raising money for Alzheimer's. The great news is that we have now raised over £55,000 for Alzheimer Scotland and Alzheimer's Society. We received a huge boost by way of a massive donation from the Ian Mactaggart Trust, for which I am so very grateful.
So today I flew from Gatwick to Inverness by EasyJet. While waiting in the departure lounge my name was called. They had found the gas canister for my camping stove in my rucksack. Apparently this is not allowed, and their scrutiny was reassuring! So I was met by two security personnel on the tarmac by the plane when we were boarding and was ushered over to a van parked some short distance away. In the back was my rucksack, and under very close scrutiny I unpacked it, located the cylinder and handed it over. I found a replacement in Inverness. I spent the afternoon window shopping and, ahem, having tea and cake. Well, I will be walking it off, won't I ? I also popped into Specsavers who very kindly checked my eye to make sure that the pain it was causing me was nothing more than a wedged eye lash (not artificial by the way) which has been stuck for the past couple of days! Then onto the train for a two hour journey through some beautiful scenery amidst the North West Highlands to Strathcarron where Cathryn at the 'Tigh an Eilean Hotel, Shieldaig' collected me and took me back to Shieldaig where I reached last October. It is a stunning location and a lovely hotel. Great seafood pizza too! Lovely sunset and glorious weather. How long will it last? A short walk tomorrow. 24 kilos on my back for the first time in six months...
